Running In His Memory: Celebrating the Legacy of Daniel Clapin
This year, as Team Perley Health gathers at the starting line of Ottawa Race Weekend, there will be something deeper than race-day excitement in the air. There will be gratitude. Remembrance. And quiet determination.
We are proud to dedicate our 10th year participating in Ottawa Race Weekend to the life and legacy of Daniel Clapin — a leader, a fundraiser, and a passionate champion for the residents of Perley Health.
During his time as Executive Director of the Perley & Rideau Veterans’ Health Centre Foundation from 2011 to 2019, Dan spearheaded the creation of Team Perley Health. The idea was simple but powerful: bring the community together through running and turn every kilometre into meaningful support for seniors and Veterans living at Perley Health.
The inspiration came naturally. Dan loved to run. He would often head out on his lunch break to log a few kilometres. But for him, running wasn’t just about fitness or personal goals. From the very beginning of Team Perley Health, he dedicated every step to the residents. They were his motivation. They were his fuel.
Year after year, Dan led by example, not only as Executive Director, but as one of the team’s top fundraisers. He believed deeply in the power of community and in the importance of ensuring residents at Perley Health received compassionate care, enriching programs, and meaningful opportunities to connect.
Even while navigating cancer treatment, Dan’s commitment never wavered. When he could no longer run in person, he participated virtually, slowly walking the distance and continuing to rally support for the cause he loved. His determination and heart inspired everyone around him.
This Ottawa Race Weekend, Team Perley Health runs in his honour.
We invite our community to celebrate Dan’s life and legacy by making a tribute gift. Your donation will support Seniors and Veterans at Perley Health, and carry forward the spirit of a man who believed that every step, every effort, and every act of generosity matters.
