Colonel (Ret'd) Sandy Schwab's IRONMAN Challenge For Veterans
Sandy has offered to suit-up one more time to help raise money and awareness for our great Veterans of all ages, and the Perley Health Foundation is delighted to partner with him.
This will be Sandy's sixth IRONMAN distance competition in the inaugural IRONMAN Canada – Ottawa race on 3 August 2025. He has been preparing since last November and expects to be in decent shape for race-day.
Sandy is offering the first $10,000 to the fundraising effort and challenging all of his colleagues and friends to work towards tripling that amount - $30,000. Will you help him?
With a significant presence of serving and retired CAF members and their supporters residing in the Ottawa Valley, this should be most achievable. As with many militaries, the CAF has a rich tradition of producing great warriors and formidable athletes in many disciplines. Sandy feels very privileged to have been guided and inspired by these coach-athletes in 20 years of CAF Triathlon.
Why Vets, Why Now?
Veterans numbers are growing and we have a new generation of post-WW II Veterans who supported forty years of peacekeeping and ten years of conflict in Afghanistan. These men and women need our care and support. Also, government funding cover most of the Rations and Quarters (R&Q) for the Veterans, but does not provide adequate funding beyond the basics. Morale and Welfare (M&W) activities are mostly supported through volunteer activities and fundraising in the community.
Please help Sandy reach his $20,000 goal in support of Perley Health Veterans. Thank you.
